Recap
Ashford United striker Shaun Welford made Deal suffer again on Tuesday night as they slipped to their third successive league defeat.
The former Dover Athletic frontman, who struck four times against the Hoops last season, fired in an eight-minute first-half hat-trick and, with Ben Davisson having already given Ashford a fifth-minute lead, it meant the Hoops went in at half-time having conceded four goals – the same as against Crowborough last Saturday.
Yet for much of Tuesday’s game, and especially in the second half, Deal more than held their own against high-flying Ashford, but once again Welford’s striking instincts made the difference.
