Dean Sawyer, who does a great job in charge of the Southern Counties East League website, has produced a detailed month-by-month review of this curtailed season entitled “The Season That Never Was” – and once again a Hoops’ match gets a special mention.
In his review of the January action, Dean writes: “In the middle of the month the FA Vase returned giving four of our teams (Chatham Town, Corinthian, Deal Town and Glebe) the chance to continue with their dreams of Wembley.
“Deal were drawn at home to Binfield and, after drawing 1-1 after extra-time, the Hoops travelled to Berkshire for the replay.
“Then, in one of the moments of the season, Deal took the hosts all the way to a penalty shootout which they won 7-6 with goalkeeper James Tonkin scoring the winning penalty, sparking epic scenes.”
