Sheppey Utd chairman Matt Smith has selected the Hoops’ home game with the Ites in September as one of his matches of the season.
Sheppey won 1-0 thanks to a fourth-minute header from Jez Hammond that proved to be the prelude to an eventful 90 minutes which included three missed penalties, the Ites’ goalkeeper Joshua Pelling being sent off, and the first ever “sin binning” in a Southern Counties East League match at the Charles Ground.
Hoops’ assistant manager Steve King said after the match that it was “…one of the maddest games of football I have ever been involved in” while in his recently published end-of-season report Matt Smith says: “Despite the season being ended early nobody can take away the memories of this season, including our 1-0 win down at Deal in a game which had everything you can imagine in it.”
