Deal Town manager Derek Hares said Saturday’s eventful 4-4 draw with Lordswood felt “more like a win than a draw”.
“After losing our last four home league games we couldn’t afford another one,” Hares said, “and I think it will give the boys’ spirits a big lift because it feels more like a win than a draw against a Lordswood side who have done very well so far this season.”
The Hoops were playing “catch up” all through the game after conceding an early goal, with Hares adding: “I know the lad (Enoch Adjei) did well for their first goal but I think we could have defended it a little better as he was allowed to run a long way with the ball.
“But otherwise I was pleased with the way we played in the first half and we scored at just the right time to go in at 1-1. We then said to them that the second half half was going to be a game of mistakes and let’s make sure we don’t make any – but unfortunately Chris (Waymark) did soon after the restart.
“Then we hit back again to make it 2-2, only to fall behind once more, and when they made it 4-2 it looked like it was ‘game over’ but the lads showed great character to earn a point with those two late goals.”
