CHAPMAN “DOUBLE” SETS UP HOOPS WIN

By Deal Town

Two goals from Ben Chapman helped the Hoops to a 3-1 victory over New Romney in their latest pre-season friendly on Thursday night.
Ben opened the scoring with 21 minutes gone and the Hoops then missed a number of good chances before their Kent County League opponents, whose joint manager is former Hoops boss Dave Johncock, equalised just before half-time through Harry Carr.
But Chapman restored Deal’s lead early in the second half and Ben also played a part in the Hoops’ third goal on 56 minutes, pulling the ball back for Connor Coyne to add the finishing touch.
The Hoops are next in action on Saturday (3pm) when they travel to take on SCEL Division 1 side Kennington, who “groundshare” Ashford United’s Homelands Stadium.
Among the Kennington squad is likely to be former Hoops striker Ryan Philpott, who signed for them this week from Lydd Town.
