Beckenham Town 2 Deal Town 1

By Deal Town

A goal eight minutes from time by Marvin Alobiuso sent the Hoops to their third successive defeat at Eden Park Avenue on Saturday.

Derek Hares’ side played with a strong wind in their favour in the first half and only two last-ditch tackles prevented them from scoring before they finally broke through on the stroke of half-time, Alex Coyne deflecting in a 30-yard free kick from Charlie Walsh.

Beckenham, however, equalised 10 minutes after the restart when leading scorer Jamie Humphries grabbed his 22nd goal of the season.

The Hoops were then put under heavy pressure as Beckenham went in search of a winner but they were denied by Deal keeper Henry Newcombe, who made a string of top class saves.

However, with eight minutes left, Newcombe was finally beaten by Alobisuo as Beckenham clinched the three points which lifted them to fourth place in the table. The Hoops, in contrast, have slipped from 10th to 15th place, with just three points separating eight teams in the middle of the table.

With no match next weekend, Deal now have the chance to regroup before their rearranged midweek league game at leaders Hollands & Blair on February 17.

  1. Just shows how tight this league is,with those points separating all those teams. Just imagine how high we’d be,if we had held on to the points lost in the last two games, especially after taking the lead in both!
Lets hope the break gives all the injuries time to heal,as the team will need to be at full strength against H&B.
We don’t want to get into a run of losing games, especially as we had strung six wins on the trot beforehand!
Good luck to the team in the next game

  2. Yes the league is very close around us and although yesterday’s result was disappointing Beckenham had to work very hard. They are a good team but just edged it.
It’s a shame a game against Rochester couldn’t have been arranged maybe they need a rest at the weekend before their game against Ashford Wednesday week.
Deal will be itching to get going again and with Blair out of form lately a full strength team for Deal could possibly
    get something.
Blair have only managed 1 win in the last 3 matches involving (Rochester,Croydon, and Afc Croydon) teams that they were beating earlier in the season.
Deal can finish in the top half of the league something to aim for definitely.
    Come on Deal.!!!!
