After the drama of their two penalty shootout victories during
the past week it’s back to good old “bread and butter” league business for the
Hoops on Saturday.
And Derek Hares’ side will travel to Aylesford to take on K Sports knowing that
they have the chance to achieve their first league “double” of the season,
having already beaten the Paperboys 4-1 at the Charles Ground in mid-November.
Deal did the “double” over K Sports last season as well as also beating them, again by a 4-1 scoreline, in an
FA Vase second qualifying round tie and so the Hoops have won all four of their
meetings with the Paperboys since the Aylesford outfit won promotion to the
Premier Division in 2018.
K Sports are currently in 15th place in the
table, five places below Deal, but although they have only three less points
than the Hoops they have played five matches more and were looking very
nervously over their shoulders before picking up four points from their last
two games, including a surprise 1-1 draw at fourth-placed Hollands & Blair
last weekend.
The Paperboys play on a 3G pitch at their
Cobdown Stadium, as do Consett, the Hoops’ next opponents in the Vase, and
Hares said: “Playing on K Sports’ 3G pitch will be good practice for the Vase
game and the boys will be right up for it because they all want to play against
Consett.”
