For the second time this season the Hoops found trying to break
through the Fisher defence a frustrating experience on Saturday.
Although they are in 15th place the Rotherhithe club have conceded less goals
than any other team in the bottom half of the table and Deal, who drew 0-0 at
home with Fisher on the opening day of the campaign, were again unable to add
to that “goals against” total as Derek Hares’ side failed to find the
back of the net for the first time in 14
matches.
In a game of few chances for either team, it
meant that Josh Adejokun’s 65th-minute strike was enough to earn Fisher their
first win in five matches.
The Hoops’ cause wasn’t helped by suffering
more additions to their growing injury list, with Alfie Foster and Billy Munday
both having to go off with back injuries while Jack Penny lasted only 26
minutes before being replaced by Steve O’Brien because of an ankle knock.
Neither side managed a shot on target in the
opening 45 minutes and the second half looked as though it might be heading the
same way until Adejokun finally broke the deadlock, and although Deal kept
plugging away in search of an equaliser they had to wait until the 89th minute
before achieving their first on-target effort which was comfortably saved by
the Fisher ‘keeper.
Hoops head coach Steve King “tweeted”
afterwards: “Tough and frustrating day for the boys. It was like the ‘walking
wounded’ out there today but can’t fault the boys’ commitment to the cause and
they deserved something from the game. Fingers crossed for a bit of luck
injury-wise.”
Deal: Tonkin, Hark, Penny (O’Brien), Scott,
Foster (Reeves), Munday (Maughan), Chapman, Murray, Coyne, Walsh, Alexander.
