Margate FC U18’s v Deal Town FC U18’s

This was always going to be a big game for us playing a very successful U18 side in Margate.  It had the feel of one of those important games in the season.  From the off Deal looked and felt comfortable in possession, we defended against their attack and could count on one hand how many saves our keeper Kye Davidson had to make.  The midfield was solid and we attacked with power and precision making sure their defense and keeper were kept busy.  13 minutes in and our first goal came from a set piece, Jude Williams with a brilliant leap in the box to get his head onto a Owen Wilkinson cross powering it past the keeper, this really got the team buzzing and you could see the energy levels were high.  7 minutes later Jem Saldonido went on a tricky run into the opposition box and was bought down with the ref having no option but to righty give a penalty.  Owen Wilkinson stepped up and slotted it home as he always does.  With 8 minutes left of the first half Kaeden Jefferys received the ball in the box, pinned his man and managed to find MOTM winner Mason Scott who slotted it home…. 0-3 up at HT

With more of the same wanted and some tactical information from management the lads went for the second half looking to get goals and also keep a clean sheet.  We attacked form the off putting them under pressure straight away.  We had a few chances on goal but the Margate keeper was doing his best to keep the score line down with some strong saves keeping us at bay until the 60th minute…. with some excellent build up play and Jem Saldonido getting down the wing he stuck a great cross in and there was Kaeden Jefferys with a huge leap getting up above the defenders and keeper and powerfully head one in from 6ft out.  What a superb all-round team goal.   The pressure kept coming but this time it came from Margate who were trying to get back into the game and at least get on the score sheet…. BUT the Deal lads were having none of it as they defended and pressed with every ounce of energy even when 4 nil up… Brilliant!  Then in the 77th minute Deal went on another break, some good passing and link up play in the business end gave Mason Scott a chance he wasn’t going to miss to get his second of the game and secure the 0-5 win away from home.
