Deal made it a sixth victory, out of six, in the 2024/2025 pre-season period. Former Isthmian League side Corinthian always hold their own, and will be once again in the hunt for the SCEFL title this season.
Following a number of changes from Tuesday's fixture with a Gillingham XI, most notable was a bench full of young, local talent.
The game began evenly, with not much separating proceedings. That was until Corinthian took the lead; Corinthian's number 9 pouncing on a scrappy loose ball in the penalty area, following a good delivery from the right-hand side (40').
Deal reacted positively, however; Alex Green preying on poor touch by the Corinthian right-back, resulting in a powerful strike from Wes Hennessey (44') into the top right-hand corner (from the left-hand side of the area). 1-1 into half-time.
Coming out for the second-half and Kaeden Jefferys replaced Rory Sutcliffe (46), before Morgan Page replaced Ife Oni (58').
The Hoops (the black and white ones!) then took control. A Josh Vincent header, from a Macaulay Murray free kick, giving Deal the lead (58'). 'Macca's' delivery being a great ball in from the right-hand side of the pitch.
There were further changes into the final quarter of the game, with Euan Bunn, Jude Williams and Kyle Davidson replacing Hennessey, Foster and Molloy (69' & 73', respectively).
The scoreline was completed into the last ten minutes as Morgan Page finished off a fast-paced counter (82'). An excellent assist from Euan, causing the Corinthian 'keeper to hesitate, to which was capitalised on.
Full-time in Longfield, resulting in a strong performance and 3-1 victory. Attention now turns to our final two pre-season fixtures, as we travel to Folkestone Invicta on Tuesday and host Faversham Strike Force next Saturday. Supporters will also be able to see our new away kit in action this week, as it makes it's debut at Cheriton Road.
