WHITSTABLE TOWN V HOOPS PREVIEW

By Deal Town

The Hoops face a tough task when they travel to Whitstable Town for a SCEL Challenge Cup quarter-final tie on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

The Oystermen have won their last six matches, including beating Cray Valley PM 1-0 at the weekend in the semi-finals of the Kent Reliance Senior Trophy, and have only lost five times in 22 league games this season.

But the Hoops will be able to draw encouragement from the fact that one of those five defeats was against Deal, with two goals from Sam Wilson giving Derek Hares’ side a 2-1 victory over Whitstable at the Charles Ground back in early September when Scott Porter’s team were top of the table.

And the Hoops’ recent record is also good with four wins in their last five matches in league and cup, although their chances against Whitstable may not have been helped by having their last two scheduled games at Lordswood and Rusthall both postponed.

If Tuesday’s game goes ahead one interesting name in the Whitstable line-up could be Macauley Murray, the son of former Hoops’ manager Paul Murray, who played a full 90 minutes against Cray Valley on Saturday.

  1. I suppose the plus side of not playing Saturday is that the team (hopefully) will be fitter and fresher than the Oysters. 🙂
With Whitstable playing on Saturday(in that weather and on that pitch!),I expect there could be a few tired bodies and legs in their side, especially as they only made 2 substitutions ,both in the last 2 minutes.
Looking forward to a good battle(if the weather holds!)

  2. Hopefully for the players the game will go ahead because with postponements it must be frustrating.
In fine form ourselves so Deal go there with belief they can pull off a win and if Deal are the underdogs they won’t care.
It’s great that Roy has offered to take supporters to the game and has to be applauded.
I wish the players all the best and hope they can do the right things and be disciplined because the oystermen will intimidate and hugely frustrate.
It’s a game that will be attractive to the neutral but as a fan our season relies on a win.
Two more extra games will be fantastic just hope they can all be played.
    Come on you Hoops.!
    Come on Deal.!!!!!

  3. Unfortunately tonight’s game has been postponed following a pitch inspection this morning

  4. Fingers crossed for Tuesday (20th)?
Weather forecast looks good,so hopefully the game will take place.
Let’s turn the Oysters over and keep the cup run going!?
