The Hoops will be looking for their fifth win in their last six
matches when they travel to Surrey on Sunday to take on Westside in the FA Vase
first round proper.
Manager Derek Hares said: “We want to keep our good run going and our away form
has been pretty good so far this season. But we fell at the first hurdle in the
FA Cup at Sutton Athletic and Sunday’s tie gives us the chance to make up for
that. It’s good for the players to meet different
teams and we’re all looking forward to it as the FA Vase is always a very
important competition for us.”
Westside are a Christian-based club who are
lying in fifth place in the Cherry Red Combined Counties League First Division,
and Hares added: “They are effectively a grade down from us but from what I can
gather they are quite lively going forward and so we can’t take anything for
granted.”
The Wandsworth-based club are currently
sharing Chessington & Hook United’s Chalky Lane ground which is why the tie
has had to be put back 24 hours to Sunday because Chessington, who are the
owners of Chalky Lane, have a home league game on Saturday.
Although it will be the first occasion that
Deal have met Westside the Hoops have played at Chalky Lane before. Deal were
drawn against Chessington & Hook in an FA Cup preliminary round tie in
August 2014 and lost 2-1 at Chalky Lane in a replay after drawing 1-1 at the
Charles Ground.
