WELLING TOWN V HOOPS PREVIEW

By Deal Town

The Hoops return to action on Saturday after their near two-week break with a trip to SCEL Premier Division newcomers Welling Town.
“The Boots”, as Welling are nicknamed, won promotion to the league’s top flight by winning the Division One title last season, a success which continued their rapid rise after the club was only founded five years ago.
Welling, who play at Bayliss Avenue in Thamesmead, the former home of Thamesmead Town, have made a similar start to the season as Deal, picking up one win in their opening five league games. But their confidence will have been lifted by Wednesday’s 2-0 FA Vase first qualifying round replay victory over Erith Town.
The Hoops for their part will be keen to start finding the net on a more regular basis after managing just four goals in the league so far. Head coach Steve King said: “We’ve kept three clean sheets out of five (in the league) and I’ve been pleased with the performances, but we need to start turning those good performances into wins by scoring more goals.”
