SUTTON ATHLETIC V HOOPS FA CUP PREVIEW

By Deal Town

The Hoops will be helping to make a little piece of FA Cup history when they travel to play Sutton Athletic in Saturday’s extra preliminary round.
It will be the first time in Sutton’s 121-year history that the Hextable-based club have played in the world’s oldest cup competition. Athletic’s inclusion in this season’s competition is due reward for all the hard work that the club has put in to bring their London Hire Ground stadium up to the required standard.
Sutton play in the SCEL First Division and finished fifth last season, but they will be hoping to do even better this time around after opening the new campaign with a 7-0 victory at Greenways last Saturday.
Hoops manager Derek Hares said: “It’s a big game for everybody. Sutton might be in the league below us but, from what I’ve been told and looking at their result last Saturday, they are not going to be a pushover.”
Ben Chapman and Liam Hark are back in the Hoops squad after being unavailable for the opening two league games while Lee Scott may also be fit to feature after injury. But Alfie Foster is still suspended while Connor Coyne is unavailable.
The winners of Saturday’s tie will pick up £2,250 in prize money and qualify for a home game against Ashford Town (Middlesex) in the next round.
