SUTTON ATHLETIC 0 DEAL TOWN 3

By Deal Town

Two goals from Sam Wilson, taking his tally for the season to 19, helped carry the Hoops through to the quarter-finals of the Southern Counties East League Challenge Cup on Tuesday night.

Against their lowly First Division opponents Deal dominated from the start and could easily have led by more than 1-0 at half-time, with Wilson providing the breakthrough from close range after the Sutton keeper had pushed out a shot from Ben Chapman.
The Hoops were on top again straight from the start of the second half and Connor Coyne went close before the same player made it 2-0 on 48 minutes with a trademark long-range effort.

And seven minutes later the tie was virtually all over when Wilson grabbed his second goal from a Danny Smith corner.
Deal were so dominant that James Tonkin didn’t have to make his first genuine save until the 71st minute while at the other end the Hoops continued to make regular chances until the final whistle.

Their reward is now a trip to Whitstable Town in the last eight on a date to be set in February.

  1. A good win on a pretty good pitch against a side that took Corinthian to penalties in the previous round.
A victory against a pretty average side and the players reward is a tie at the Belmont Ground home of the “Oystermen” Whitstable. Looking at the fixture schedule it won’t be played in February. Possibly March 6th or 7th.
It will be an intriguing tie between two good sides and a game to look forward to.
I felt the players handled their task well and weren’t really put under much pressure.
At the end all the power went out. Didn’t appear to be a power cut because all surrounding neighbourhood had power.
    Come on Deal.!!!!

  2. A good team performance all round against a rather physical team at times, considering the players missing through injury.?
Talking of absentees, does anyone know the update on the likes of such players as Walsh,O.Brien,Anderson and Reeves!?
Haven’t seen them for what seems ages.
Are they still with the club??
