SEVENOAKS TOWN 4 DEAL TOWN 0

By Deal Town

Two goals in each half saw Sevenoaks reclaim their leadership of the SCEL Premier Division at Deal’s expense on Saturday.

The long-time leaders had been overtaken by Beckenham in midweek but Micky Collins’ side bounced back to the top thanks to their third win over the Hoops in league and cup this season.

The Deal management, however, felt the 4-0 scoreline offered a distinctly unfair reflection on the game with coach Steve King ‘tweeting’ afterwards: “Strange day that, losing 4-0 but with the opposition ‘keeper Jack Bradshaw getting man of the match, and I can’t fault the boys’ effort ”
The Hoops, playing their first match for nearly three weeks after having three games in a row postponed, were on top for the first 20 minutes but were frequently denied by Bradshaw before Sevenoaks snatched a 23rd-minute lead through Jason Thompson.

Kenny Pogue then added a second 10 minutes before half-time to put Sevenoaks in the driving seat, but once again it was Deal who asked most of the attacking questions in the early stages of the second half without being able to achieve any end product.

And, as Sevenoaks sensed another three points within their grasp, they began to produce the sort of sharp attacking football which has now reaped 16 wins in 23 league games this season. Hoops’ keeper James Tonkin did his best to restrict the home side’s winning margin but he was eventually beaten twice more by Mark Jones and Frankie Sawyer in the final eight minutes.

Deal: Tonkin, Paxman, Chapman, Scott, K Smith, D Smith (Alexander 81), Foster (Reeves 73), Miller, Coyne (Sahadow 58), Wilson, Adams.

  1. Not the sort of result the team wanted, especially with another tough one coming up on Tuesday night against the Oysters!
Was the idea to rest some players for tomorrows’ game,or some experiment to see what the best eleven would be!?
Personally,I think that if you start with Saturdays’ line up, Whitstable will prove too strong for you.
Looking forward to tomorrows’ game, with the best team winning 😉

  2. Resting players after a 3 week break (really).
Connor was gutted when he came off and what happens weather calls game off. Unbelievable play your best team while they are fit coz they wanna play.
Sevenoaks were pleased with our performance as they weren’t in the game in the first half hour and the mom award went to their goalkeeper. He was outstanding better than Daniel Ellis of Crowborough.
Don’t be fooled by the score line it was a good effort by the lads.
    Come on Deal.!!!

  3. As far as “your best team” goes,I suppose it’s a matter of priorities. Do you play your best team on Saturday against Bearsted (risking injury or sending offs) or rest a few for an important cup game against a better team,(who will provide stiffer opposition) on Tuesday.
Personally,I would want the STRONGEST team out against the Oysters and if that means dropping some players, whether to the bench,or out of the squad completely, then so be it.
Weather permitting, will be there for both.

  4. Unfair to be critical of the management who are doing very good job. We were always in with a shout in this game, only some fine goalkeeping stopped us scoring. The last two goals came late in the game giving a score line that was rather flattering to Sevenoaks. So keep up the good work and I’ll see you Saturday if I can remember where the ground is after such a long time of away games.
