1st May 2025
We are delighted to announce the return of goalkeeper James Tonkin, who has agreed to sign for the 2025/26 season.
'Tonks' will need little introduction to the Charles Ground faithful having racked up 225 competitive appearances since his debut (aged 18). After taking a break away from the game, due to work commitments, he will now be back as the Club's number 1 as we look forward to our second season in the Isthmian South East.
Commenting on the signing, manager Steve King said:
We are delighted to bring Tonks back as number one. As soon as we knew Adam would not be with us this season he was the only man we wanted and we are pleased to have agreed everything nice and early.
Although he has only just turned 27, James brings a wealth of experience and is already familiar with the current squad having featured in our FA Vase run last year as well as on a couple of occasions this season. He is a goalkeeper I have worked with for a number of years and I know how good he is. I am sure he will be a key member of the squad this season.'
We also caught up with Tonks himself who said:
I am happy to be back home with Kingy and all of the boys. I'm excited for a promising season at Deal Town and can't wait to get back out there in pre-season!
Welcome back Tonks; we are all looking forward to seeing you wear the No 1 shirt next season. Tonks' player sponsorship (home and away) will be available in the coming weeks, available to purchase via our club shop.
