Hoops Appoint New Board Member

Deal Town Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew Nixon as a new Director on the Board.

Andrew brings a wealth of experience in grassroots football development and a strong commitment to supporting youth football in the local area. His appointment reflects the club’s ongoing dedication to nurturing young talent and strengthening its connection with the community.

Andrew has been actively involved in youth football for several years, playing a key role in creation and development of Whitfield Juniors Football Club; mentoring young players and fostering strong pathways for young people to progress within the game are key attributes which align to those of Deal Town Football Club. His expertise in youth development and strategic planning will be instrumental for our club as we continue to grow our own infrastructure and expand opportunities for young players.

Chair, Natalie Benville, expressed her enthusiasm of the appointment:

We are thrilled to welcome Andrew to the Board. His extensive knowledge of youth football, combined with his passion for the local game, will be invaluable in helping us shape the future of Deal Town FC. Developing young players and ensuring they have the right support and opportunities is a key focus for the club, and Andrew’s experience will be a huge asset in driving this forward.

Andrew’s Director responsibilities coincides with an exciting time for Deal Town FC, as the club looks to build on recent successes and further strengthen its youth development programs. His leadership and insight will play a crucial role in ensuring that aspiring footballers in the area have access to high-quality coaching, facilities, and progression opportunities.

We took some time earlier this week to get to know the married, father of two, who operates as the Retail Manager at Tesco (Whitfield). He has been Whitfield Juniors Chairman since 2019 and currently coaches the Dover/Deal Secondary Schools District side too, but it is an involvement at Deal Town where his next challenge commences:

I have been with Whitfield Juniors since 2018, setting up an Under 7 team with 9 players; it gave me the impetus in growing the club from one team up to the 13 we currently have today, with over 150 players. It’s been a family-friendly club which has really focused on making great memories, both on and off the pitch for all the players and families; something to which I see similarities with at Deal Town.

Watching Deal Town continue to go from strength-to-strength, I really want to be able to support the club in setting up the Youth Section. We want to be able to have teams competing in the Kent Youth League, from under 13 upwards. The club already has a strong set up with the Under 23 and Under 18 teams; by adding additional teams from Under 13 onwards it shall only support the development opportunities for young players to grow. In addition, it will help create a clear pathway to potential first team football.

Andrew boasts a tremendous pedigree in supporting youth players, and this is where he hopes to have impact at the Charles Ground:

For me, I really want to help support local talent. It is important that the club create a clear progression pathway for local youth players; not only can we help create the next generation of Hoops supporters but if we can facilitate more first-team players then we will have done our job! I am really looking forward to seeing how I can use my previous experience, my passion for football, to build a competitive and strong youth section.

We also delved into his interests a little more, with some quick-fire questions:

Who do you support?

Tottenham and, of course, Deal Town!

Ever tried Krombacher?

No, but I suppose I better now.

If you could spend a day in someone else’s shoes, whose would they be? Why?

If I could go back in time I would have loved to have been one of the England players from ’66; to win a World Cup in your home country, there can't be much of a better feeling? And to think at the time when would this ever this happen again? Imagine the scenes if it was to happen today!

Favourite sporting memories?

As Tottenham haven't won many trophies, I would have to say the Champions League Semi Final win in Amsterdam (against Ajax) and the way it all happened; it will never be forgotten.

3 adjectives to describe yourself?

Calm, Honest and Ambitious.

We left the final words for Andrew, too:

It’s great to be on board. I am really excited about what the next few years look like at Deal Town. Having experienced the great success of last season SCEFL win, to be able to now help the club grow shows the ambition of where the club is heading.

If you would like  to get involved by helping with the growth of Deal Town Football Club, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please get in touch with us by emailing:
