MANAGEMENT TEAM UPDATE

By Deal Town

With the league season now being more than ten games old and with no home game for two weeks we felty this would be a good chance to give our supporters a brief update. There are regular columns in the matchday programme from a range of people in the dressing room and if you have yet to buy a programme at a home game I would strongly recommend it as they are a match for any club at any level. Well done to Nick Dunn and his team for the quality of the programme every week.

It is fair to say that it has been a very pleasing start to the season. To have won 9 of our first 11 league games and have kept clean sheets in 8 of those is really pleasing. Our pre-season results showed that the squad was in a good place but it has been brilliant to see that transfer into the start of the league campaign. As has been said numerous times we are building for the long term with the squad and this start shows that progress in continuing to be made. We are building on the excellent Vase run of 2019/20 and although last season only lasted 11 games we did have the best defensive record in SCEFL at the time.

Now is not a time to become complacent and we will continue to work hard over the coming weeks and months. It is inevitable that we will have a blip at some stage, every team does, but we will continue to strive for that level of consistency that will keep us in the upper reaches of the league. Although we only added 3 players in the summer it was a massive bonus not to lose anyone. The players are very loyal and that means that we have been able to build year on year and have developed a brilliant team spirit. The three players that have come in, Tom Chapman, Rene Rivera and Max Niblett have all added extra quality to the side. We have an exciting squad at the minute who are defensively organised but also have flair and pace in attack and it is always our aim to entertain the supporters.

Talking of supporters, the main aim of this update is to say a massive THANK YOU to you all. When I first came to the club in January 2015 the home crowds were around the 50 mark. So far this season we have averaged around 250 and the ground has been buzzing. We would like to say a massive thank you for all of the positive comments we have received, both on social media and in person, and let you all know that your support is massively appreciated. When the crowd get behind the boys verbally it makes a massive difference and hopefully, we will continue to see our crowds continue to rise.

It is also important to mention the role of the backroom staff who have played an invaluable role to our start to the season. Dean Hill is a hugely respected voice in the dressing room and someone with experience of being successful at this level. Kieron Hollier has done a brilliant job as goalkeeper coach with Tonks, who has developed into an outstanding performer. Rob Edwards has come in and made us even more professional in our approach to the Sport Science side of the game and his input is invaluable. Dave Briggs continues to support all the players as physio with Brenton Duke doing a great job with any on field injuries. Finally, Dave Dadd ensures that everything is prepared for every game and does so much unsung work to support the players.

Together with the board we will continue to do everything we can to keep moving the club forward, We will always do this in a sensible and sustainable way but there is always the desire to keep moving us forward and making the town proud.

Thanks again for your support and we look forward to seeing you at the Charles Ground soon.

  1. Its great to see the club doing so well on the field, I am so looking forward to the Kennington game as it is so important to still be in the competition after Christmas when the Vase goes national. The fourth and fifth rounds are pivotal as I know from experience. So see you all on the23rd best wishes. Tom
