“KINGY” AND “TONKS” INTERVIEWED ON RADIO KENT

By Deal Town

Assistant manager Steve King and goalkeeper James Tonkin were phone-in guests on Radio Kent’s “Monday Night Sports Show” this week talking about the Hoops’ tremendous FA Vase replay victory at Binfield, and here’s some of what they had to say:
Steve King: “It was a fantastic day. We obviously went up there as underdogs but we had a lot of travelling support and you just couldn’t write the script. Having thrown away a lead in extra-time, and also missed one penalty to win it in the shootout you began to think it’s not going to be ours, but we eventually got across the line. And, to be honest, I was absolutely confident that ‘Tonks’ would score his penalty.”
James Tonkin: “I always think the best way to take a penalty is just to hit it hard straight down the middle. And when goalies have to take penalties I don’t think we are under as much pressure as outfield players because we aren’t really expected to score, so that makes it a bit easier,
“As for saving penalties I’ve always been not too bad at that. I’ve already saved three this season (apart from the three he saved in Saturday’s shootout) and I just think you’ve got to commit to diving one way, but the bottom line really is that it’s all down to pot luck.”
