KENNINGTON V HOOPS PREVIEW

By Deal Town

The Hoops will look to bounce back from their FA Vase disappointment when they travel to Ashford on Wednesday night to take on Kennington in the quarter-finals of the SCEL Challenge Cup (7.45pm).

Kennington are one of two Division One clubs, the other being Sutton Athletic, who have made it through to the last eight and “The Ton” are also pushing strongly for promotion this season. They are currently in second place in the table, one point behind leaders Rusthall, following Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with promotion rivals Holmesdale.

Kennington hold the distinction of being the oldest club in Kent, having been formed around 130 years ago, and since the start of last season they have been groundsharing at Ashford United’s Homelands Stadium which, like Consett’s ground, has a 3G pitch.

The Hoops last played Kennington in a pre-season friendly back in July which saw the Hoops win a high-scoring encounter 6-4.
