HOOPS V FISHER PREVIEW

By Deal Town

The Hoops kick off the New Year in daunting fashion on Saturday with a home game against SCEL Premier Division leaders Fisher.
The Fish made a slow start to the season and were lying in 11th place after their 2-0 home defeat by Lordswood in late September. But since then the south-east London outfit have been virtually unstoppable, winning 16 times in their last 18 matches in all competitions including a 2-0 league home victory over Deal on November 10.
However they were helped on that occasion by Alfie Foster being somewhat harshly sent off in the first half for two yellow cards and Hoops manager Derek Hares said: “I thought we played pretty well that day. Fisher took their chances well but it was always going to be difficult for us playing with 10 men for 70 minutes.”
Fisher currently lead the table by one point from Beckenham, with Corinthian a point further back, and Hares added: “All the pressure will be on Fisher (on Saturday) because they are one of three or four teams at the top who can’t afford to lose a game, and we are looking forward to it.”
Kane Smith (ankle), who Hares hopes will have recovered from his broken ankle by the end of the month, is the Hoops’ only injury absentee on Saturday as they look to start their 2019 programme in style.
