After the “high” of Tuesday’s cup victory over Sevenoaks the Hoops return to their pressing priority of picking up league points when they travel to Croydon on Saturday.

Last weekend’s home defeat by Erith Town saw Deal slip to third from bottom of the Southern Counties East League table and every game will now have added pressure for Derek Hares and his team while they remain in that perilous position.

Opponents Croydon in contrast are in a comfortable mid-table position after winning their last two league games, including a 1-0 midweek home success over Erith & Belvedere.

But the Hoops have already made a successful visit to the Croydon Sports Arena this season, winning 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out back in late November after the Kent Senior Trophy second round tie had finished 2-2 after extra-time with Luke Bigginton scoring both Deal’s goals.

Hares said: “It’s always a tough place to go with little atmosphere generated there, but I am confident we have enough ability in the side to stay up, especially after the way we played against Sevenoaks.”

Deal Town Reserves return to action on Saturday (2.45pm) with a home game against Aylesford in the Kent County League Division 2 Central & East. They will be looking to avenge the 5-3 defeat they suffered at Aylesford on the opening day of the season.
