Hoops v Corinthian FA Cup preview

By Deal Town

The Hoops will hope to end a “negative” 25-year-old statistic when they travel to meet Corinthian in the Emirates FA Cup extra preliminary round on Saturday.

The last occasion that Deal won an away fixture on the opening day of the season was on August 15th 1992 when they hammered Alma Swanley 6-0 in the old Kent League.

A similar big win on Saturday is unlikely, especially as the Hoops will be without Steve O’Brien and Dan Adams, who are both unavailable, while Connor Coyne is suspended for the opening two games of the campaign.

But Hoops manager Derek Hares told the East Kent Mercury: “It will be a tough game but we are confident. We are up to speed with pre-season having gone well and have got a decent young squad.”

Corinthian, who are based in Longfield, finished 10th in the SCEL Premier Dvision last season, three places above Deal. When the two sides last met back in March a Joe Reeves goal earned the Hoops a 1-1 draw at Gay Dawn Farm and “Del” and “Kingy” would probably settle for a similar outcome this weekend.

Lets make sure we don’t get embarrassed on Saturday.
Replay at home on Tuesday at the very least! 🙂
