HOOPS V CHATHAM TOWN PREVIEW

By Deal Town

The Hoops will have to contend with the Southern Counties East League’s top scorer when they take on Chatham Town at the Charles Ground on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Paul Vines scored twice more in the Chats’ 3-2 victory at Glebe on Saturday to boost his tally for the season in all competitions to 41, and that impressive figure also included one of Chatham’s goals when they defeated Deal 4-0 at home in early October.

Also on target that day was former Dover Athletic striker Byron Walker who has a total of 20 goals under his belt, and the Vine-Walker striking combination have helped to make Chatham the league’s joint top goalscorers with 95 goals from 34 matches, so it’s clear that the Hoops defence are going to have to be on their toes as Deal look to stretch their current unbeaten run to six games.

And for Derek Hares’ side there is the added incentive of knowing that victory over the Chats would lift them into sixth place in the table, their highest position since early December.
