GLEBE V HOOPS PREVIEW

By Deal Town

The Hoops and Glebe will meet again in their own private “Test series” this season when they play each other for the SEVENTH time on Saturday, this time at the Chislehurst club’s Foxbury Avenue ground.
The two clubs first met in the FA Cup preliminary round back in August when Glebe won 3-0 at home in a replay after a 2-2 draw at the Charles Ground. They were then paired together in the FA Vase first qualifying round and this time it was Deal’s turn to come out on top in emphatic fashion, winning 7-2 at home in another replay after a 3-3 extra-time draw at Chislehurst.
And the clubs’ cup “hat-trick” was completed when they were also drawn against each other in the League Challenge Cup second round at the end of November, which saw another high-scoring home victory for the Hoops, this time by a 6-3 scoreline.
The following weekend they met again at the Charles Ground, on this occasion in a league game, and again Deal came out on top, winning 4-1.
That result left Glebe five places below Deal in the table but they go into this weekend’s fixture in 10th place, two places above the Hoops, after picking up seven points from their last three matches.
But Deal, who will again be without the suspended Jack Paxman, have four games in hand on Glebe and will be bidding to complete a “4-1 Test series” victory over their very familiar opposition.

  1. Have a feeling that this game will not be as easy as the previous meetings,as Glebe have picked up in the last month, with two good wins against Canterbury and the Lords recently.?
Will be tough. Good luck to all involved.

  2. Another game called off. Let’s hope fixture congestion will not ruin Deal’s very good season.

  3. The cancelled matches have already disrupted the teams progression.
The fixture congestion will make things even worse of course.
I just hope the team can get going again and get back to winning which at times this season has been not easy but we’ll earnt.
It will take a few matches to get their fitness and confidence back like starting a new season.
I feel for the team because it’s difficult for them.
    Another away game as well.
    Come on Deal.!!!!

  4. Yes and a mid week trip as well!
Bad enough on a Saturday but on a Tuesday night!? Just what the club doesn’t need! 🙁
Rather than play at least three times a week, its time for the league to extend into May!

  5. May need to extend into June the way it’s looking.
It’s been horrendous weather and maybe the league should do what the premier league have done.
How’s about no replays in vase and fa cup.
It will make sense to extend but I doubt they will coz the fa cup starts in July.
    Come on Deal.!!!!

  6. Heard a rumour that the Spartan League have made an application to the FA to have their season extended till May,due to the weather causing backlogs.
If it’s good enough for them………?

  7. The League officials have already made the decision not to extend the season looking at Crowborough’s fixture schedule as they have Tuesday night and Thursday night games in April.
It’s scandalous that the premier league teams are away on holiday and can’t be bothered to have replays in F A Cup.
They would never play 3 games in a week.
    Come on Deal.!!!

  8. So many games in such a short time is totally unfair to everybody. Does nobody realise that senior citizens, on a fixed income, who regularly support their local teams may have to miss some games due to financial constraints. This also depletes the support for the team and the club’s gate takings. As I said totally unfair on everybody.

  9. Yeah absolutely agree even on a small wage it’s difficult.
Not everyone is local it all adds up.
I think the whole league format and cups need looking at.
I’d do away with replays full stop just one game and do away with two leg semis.
It is crazy to make teams squeeze the life out a everyone. I mean the players have to be able to perform at their best
    It’s ridiculous.
    Come on Deal.!!!!

  10. The blame really lies with the League!
With the news of the re-arranged Glebe game, the team now have to play Saturday,Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday in the last week of the season!
Imagine if the team were involved in a promotion/relegation battle!!
    Totally crazy!
