Recap

The Hoops and Glebe must meet for the fourth time in the space of a few weeks after they again finished “all square” in Saturday’s Buildbase FA Vase first round qualifying tie.

It took two matches to settle their FA Cup clash last month, with Glebe winning a replay at Chislehurst, and they will now face another replay, this time at the Charles Ground on Tuesday, after extra-time failed to separate the sides in their latest encounter.

Deal went into Saturday’s game showing four changes from the team who had beaten Whitstable in midweek with Steve Butcher, Sam Wilson, Lee Scott and Luke Bigginton all unavailable, but they still enjoyed the better of the first half against a Glebe side who so far this season have been saving their best football for cup matches.

And it was the home team who took the lead against the run of play when Adrian Stone, who had scored a hat-trick in their FA Cup victory over Banstead the previous weekend, struck with 29 minutes gone.

But Deal deservedly got back on level terms just before the break when, following a corner, Dean Hill headed the ball back across goal for Joe Reeves to apply the finishing touch.

The Hoops again looked the more likely side to add to their tally in the second half only for Glebe to once more regain the lead 10 minutes from time.

Deal now needed something special to keep their Vase hopes alive and it was provided two minutes later by Charlie Walsh who crashed home a 30-yard free kick in off the underside of the bar.

That sent the tie into extra-time, where the Hoops struck first with seven minutes remaining through substitute Ryan Philpott following good work by Andy Miller and Connor Coyne.

But Glebe refused to lie down and they set up a return visit to the Charles Ground in the dying minutes when a long hopeful ball into the Hoops’ penalty area somehow evaded everybody on its’ way into the net.

Deal: Tonkin, Paxman, Hark, Hill, Smith, Adams, Reeves (Philpott 80), Walsh, Coyne, Miller, Alexander.
