FISHER v HOOPS PREVIEW

By Deal Town

Fisher manager Gary Abbott  has described Saturday’s home game with the Hoops as “…a real six-pointer” and it’s not difficult to understand why.

The match features the two sides currently propping up all the rest in the Southern Counties East League and Deal go into the game knowing that defeat will see them slip to the bottom of the table on Saturday night – albeit with four matches in hand on the ‘Fish’.

Hoops manager Derek Hares told the East Kent Mercury: “I am not unduly worried at the moment, take out the results against Crowborough and Ashford and we haven’t played too badly, but this is a game we need to win.”

Deal did the “double” over Fisher last season, winning 4-1 at the Charles Ground on the opening day of the campaign and then 3-1 in March at Dulwich Hamlet’s Champion Hill ground, where the ‘Fish’ were ground-sharing until moving to their new St Paul’s home in Rotherhithe during the summer.

Like the Hoops, Fisher tasted victory in the Kent Senior Trophy last weekend, defeating Lydd Town  5-2  at St Paul’s. That followed a 4-0 League Cup home success over Snodland in their previous match and Abbott said: “Now it’s back to the league this Saturday with another home game and a real six-pointer against Deal Town.”

The Hoops should have skipper Dean Hill back after he missed the Holmesdale Kent Senior Trophy victory with a head injury, but Luke Bigginton and Carl Munday are both unavailable while Charlie Walsh is still troubled by a groin strain.

Deal Town Reserves meanwhile will be looking to make it three wins in a row in the Kent County League Division 2 Central & East when they take on Willesborough Athletic at the Charles Ground on Saturday (2.45pm).

  1. Defeat is not an option! The team CANNOT afford to lose this game. 🙁
Although we have games in hand, to progress you have to win them and with E&B,H&B,AFC Croydon and the Wells coming up,it ain’t going to be easy!
All out attack is the order of the day tomorrow!
