Derek Hares picked out the performance of two-goal Rene Rivera for special mention after Monday’s 4-1 home win over Rochester United.

The Hoops manager said: “I thought Rene was outstanding today, every time he touched the ball he looked like he was going to do something.

“Michael Yianni also probably had his best game since coming to the club and Al Coyne, after being sat on the bench for the past few months, has come in at centre-half for the last two games and done exceptionally well.

“But to be honest I can’t really knock any of the boys today, they’ve all put in a good performance and it was nice to see a good crowd here as well.”

Monday’s attendance of 136 took the Hoops’ average home gate for the season so far up to 92, which is 21 up on last season, and Hares added: ”It (the crowd) included a few old faces who haven’t been here for a while, and hopefully they will come back again after watching that performance.”

Deal are now up to 14th in the Southern Counties East League table, their highest position since the opening month of the season, and Hares said: “We knew we had to take advantage of the run of home games we had this month and, to be fair to the lads, they’ve done a really good job.

“Considering all the changes we’ve had to make because of injuries and suspensions it’s made what we’ve achieved in the past month even better and, when we get everyone back, we’ll have real competition for places which is always good.

“But we’ve still got to remember that we’ve got a really tough January coming up with five of the six matches away from home and against some good sides, so that’s going to be a real measure of where we are.  I don’t think any team in this league will relish coming here to play but we’ve got to start picking up some points away from home.”

  1. Yes the performance was fantastic even early in the second half when Rochester came at Deal the lads moved up a gear and took control again.
I have been missing of late due to family illness but would love to say that the hard work is starting to pay back with results.
Always proud of the lads and coaching staff.
Its great going into the game against the leaders with a new found confidence and the lads have nothing to lose.
Their ability to grind out results as well could be a shock
    for Blair
It may be that Blair underestimate Deal and could be their downfall who knows.
It was definitely a master stroke putting the game back to monday and a great day for Paul on his birthday.
I hope the lads will be ready to go again on Saturday and
I believe they can get something out of the game and will defo be there.
Wish everyone at the club a happy and prosperous new year. ( you all deserve one )
