DEAN HILL ANNOUNCES HIS RETIREMENT

By Natalie Benville

Hoops’ club captain Dean Hill has decided to “hang up his boots”.

The 34-year-old defender, whose long and distinguished career took in spells with Ashford, Dover Athletic, Ramsgate and Sittingbourne before he joined Deal three years ago, said in a statement after Saturday’s win over AFC Croydon:  “I have decided to retire from playing football and wanted to give a huge thanks to everyone at Deal Town FC for their support over the past three years.

“When I left Ramsgate I was ready to hang up my boots but Del (Derek Hares) and King (Steve King) talked me into coming to one training session to see how I felt; and this resulted in me playing on for three more seasons which I’ve really enjoyed.

“Thanks to the chairman, directors, bar staff and the supporters for making me feel so welcome, and also to Del, Kingy and all the players. Without such a decent young squad around me I couldn’t have kept going!”

Derek Hares said: “We would like to thank Dean for his immense contribution as club captain over the last three years. He has been an integral part in this young squad’s development both on and off the pitch. We are keen to keep Dean involved with the club so it certainly won’t be the last we will see of him at the Charles Ground.”

  1. Shame if this really is the case. 🙁
With his experience, give him a place on the management team,to take the weight of Dels’ and Kingys’ shouders! 😉
On behalf of,I suspect, all the supporters, thanks for turning out for the team, making those last ditch saving tackles and scoring many a vital goal! 🙂
Let’s hope this isn’t the last we see of him!
