DEAL TOWN 4 TUNBRIDGE WELLS 1

By Deal Town

The Hoops rounded off their season with this emphatic victory on Saturday in front of a crowd of 207 – their highest home gate of the campaign.

But they were given a helping hand after just four minutes by Wells” Perry Spackman who was shown a straight red card for hauling down Jack Paxman in the penalty area, and Ryan Philpott then put Deal in front from the spot kick.

Five minutes later the Hoops doubled their lead and fittingly skipper for the day Danny Smith played a part. Smith was making his 456th appearance for the club, lifting him to second place in the Hoops’ all-time appearance list behind Alan Barrow, and Danny marked the occasion by delivering the free kick which Joe Anderson headed home.

Ten-man Wells then produced a response through the hard-working James Pinnock, whose 20th-minute shot was smothered by James Tonkin in the Deal goal, and it was Pinnock who brought the visitors back into the game in the opening minute of the second half when he shot home after hesitancy in the Deal defence.

The Hoops stirred themselves to make it 3-1 after 50 minute through Dan Adams and Deal then wrapped up their seventh home league win of the campaign 15 minutes from time when, from a corner, Kane Smith headed powerfully towards goal and Reeves was on hand to do the rest.

Deal finished in 13th place in the table and with an average home league attendance of 111 which represents a 20 per cent increase on the previous season.

Deal : Tonkin, Paxman, D.Smith, Hark, Scott, K.Smith, Biggington (Greenfield 76), Anderson, Philpott (Alexander 64), Adams (Gregory 67), Reeves.

  1. Considering this was an “end of season” game, with nothing to play for,it was good to see the numbers turn out. All credit to the Wells fans who made the journey(I suppose it must have been a combination of the Bank Holiday, the sun and a trip to the coast that brought them out!) and never stopped singing and chanting, even after the game had finished.
Got my wish, a good crowd and a win.
Here’s hoping for a successful season next year.
    Well done to all involved.

  2. Congratulations Derek, Steve, Dave, Brenton and the squad. You have played football exceeding 13th place and revived my interest this season in Deal Town FC. Thank you.
