The Hoops go into their final two matches of the season, starting with Holmesdale at home on Saturday, knowing that two more points will guarantee a top-10 finish in the Southern Counties East League thanks to Thursday’s excellent victory at Cray Valley.

And, after having lost two cup ties at the Badgers Sports Ground earlier in this season, this victory tasted particularly sweet for Derek Hares’ side who have now picked up four wins in their last five matches – and Thursday’s win was achieved despite the Hoops travelling with only 12 players because of injuries and unavailability.

Deal were on top for the first half hour and Joe Anderson, the Hoops’ man-of-the-match, put them in front with a far post header on 24 minutes. But Cray then hit back in the last 15 minutes of the half, scoring twice in six minutes through Marcus Elliott and Charles Ofusu-Hene.
The Hoops then regrouped at half-time and Anderson put them back in front on the hour mark before Rene Rivera notched the winner, his 20th goal of the season, after a great solo run.

A delighted Hares said afterwards: “I thought for the first half-an-hour we played really well.  The last quarter-of-an-hour after they equalised they got on top of us for a while, but I was really pleased with our reaction in the second half.

“We had to make quite a few changes tonight because several players were unavailable, and I thought the commitment of the team was excellent, as it has been for the last few weeks.”

Deal: Sparks, Hark, Scott, A Coyne, Hill, Bigginton, Carpenter (Thompson 56), Anderson, C Coyne, Gregory, Rivera.

  1. It really was a good win for Deal with a depleted side.
Every player gave 100% and you can’t ask anymore than that. What impressed me was how the players got back in the game after going behind.
There is more work to do and maybe Deal can really improve on last season and finish as high as seventh.
Hopefully a few players will be available to come back into contention.
Deal need to push on and will definitely get my support.
    I am Deal forever.
    Come on Deal.!!!
